Talk Straight Teams up with Charity Zarach to Tackle Bed Poverty

After successfully raising £4,390 for Macmillan last year, Talk Straight are turning our sights on eradicating bed poverty by teaming up with Leeds based charity Zarach.

Zarach is a charity with a clear mission:

We deliver beds and basics to children in poverty, to help families in crisis rise up from surviving to thriving so children can Eat, Sleep and Learn.

Founded by Deputy Headteacher Bex Wilson, Zarach partners with schools to “give every head a bed”. Zarach works with schools to identify children living in bed poverty, and delivers bed bundles including new beds, bedding, pyjamas and hygiene products. The difference this makes to children, who may never have slept in a bed of their own, cannot be underestimated. Without a good night’s rest, how can a child be expected to thrive and concentrate in school? A good sleep in a clean, warm bed can improve so many aspects of a child’s life.

As a company that puts safeguarding at the heart of everything we do, this is a cause we at Talk Straight feel very strongly about, so we’re pledging to raise £3,000 for Zarach – enough to provide 20 children with a new bed. As of 2018, there were over 400,000 children in the UK without a bed. By teaming up with Zarach, we hope to contribute to making Leeds the first bed poverty free city.

So stay tuned for news of our fundraising activity throughout the year, we hope you’ll get behind us once again and support this fantastic charity.
